This guide covers setup and installation of the Star TSP100 series receipt printers, including the TSP143. All details are subject to change at any time.

Before you begin ...

In order for Heartland Retail to interface with printers, you'll need to have Heartland Retail Connect installed and running on your computer. For download and installation instructions, click here.

Step 1: Install the Star Micronics CUPS driver

Before you can print to your Star Micronics receipt printer from a Mac, you will need to install the manufacturer's printer drivers.

To download the latest driver for the printer, click here.

Under the section Star Micronics TSP100 Series Driver Downloads, click on TSP100 futurePRNT Software.

This will open a new window. In the section Star Micronics TSP100 futurePRNT Software Downloads, select futurePRNT V7.1 Lite. (If you would like the hardware instruction manual for the printer, choose futurePRNT V7.1 Full CD.)

Once this file is downloaded you will need to locate it in Finder. In the example below, the file is located in the "Downloads" folder.

Next, double click the file to extract its contents. In the extracted folder, navigate to the folder Mac, then to CUPS. Find the compressed driver file, which should have a name beginning with starcupsdrv and ending with .zip.

Double-click the driver file to extract its contents, then navigate to the resulting folder, which should be named starcupsdrv-3.X.X_mac.

Inside that folder, navigate to Driver and double click the file starcupsdrv-3.X.X.pkg to begin the installation process. For detailed instructions on installing the driver, including screen shots, open the document common_tsp_mac_en.pdf, contained in the Mac >> CUPS >> Documents folder.

Step 2: Add your Star TSP100 printer in Settings

First, ensure your printer is powered on, connected to a USB port on your computer, and loaded with paper.

Next, open System Preferences

and navigate to the printers preference pane.

On the left side of the dialog that appears you will see your currently installed printers. Click the + symbol below the list to add a new printer.

In the Add dialog, you should see your Star printer on the list of available devices.
If you do not see your printer, it is either not connected (check USB), not powered on (check power switch and cords), or faulty (contact your printer supplier). Power cycling - unplugging the device and plugging it back in - may help clear some errors.

Select your Star TSP printer from the list.

If you successfully installed the driver per the instructions above, the Star TSP100 Cutter driver should appear in the Use menu. If it does not, you may be able to find it by choosing Select Software and browsing the menu that pops up.

Once the proper driver is selected, click Add and your Star TSP100 should appear on your computer's list of installed printers.

Step 3: Finding and selecting the printer in Heartland Retail

First, restart Heartland Retail Connect.

Next go to the Heartland Retail POS and click your web browser's refresh button.

Click the button at the top left of the screen to activate the POS menu.

Click Settings, second from the bottom of the menu. Then select your printer from the Receipt Printer dropdown printer.

Click Print Test Receipt. If a test receipt prints, your Star TSP143 USB printer is installed and ready for action!
