This guide covers setup and installation of the Zebra ZD410 USB label printer. It should also apply to earlier models of Zebra desktop label printers, including the LP2824 Plus.

Before you begin ...

In order for Heartland Retail to network with printers, you will need to have Heartland Retail Connect installed and running on your computer. For download and installation instructions, click here.

Step 1: Set up your printer and ensure it functions

Before you connect the ZD410 to your computer, power it on, load label media, and print a configuration report. For detailed instructions on how to do that, refer to the Setup section of the official Zebra ZD410 User Guide, which can be found here. We recommend that you read this user manual carefully as it is a valuable resource, including an extensive troubleshooting guide.

You may also find this official Zebra setup guide helpful.

Once you have successfully printed a configuration report, connect your printer to the computer using the supplied USB cable.

Step 2: Download and install the driver

Navigate to Zebra's official driver download page at this link:

Click Drivers at the bottom of the page, then select the driver that matches your version of Windows. If you're not sure what version of Windows you have, this article can help you.

Click the Download button, then save the file when prompted.

After the download completes, click the file, which will start the installation process.

The install routine will first ask for your approval to extract the file, then ask where you'd like to save it, as seen above and below. The default location should be fine in the majority of cases.

Follow the on-screen prompts to finish installing the driver.

As noted, you should make sure the Configure System option is checked unless you are an expert performing a custom installation.

Click Finish to complete. You will then be prompted to wait while the process completes.

Step 3: Select your printer

At this point, you have installed the driver itself and now need to configure it for your specific printer. Select your printer model from the list. If you're using the most recent supported Heartland Retail hardware, you should choose ZDesignerZD410-203dpiZPL.

Next, select the port your printer is connected to. On most systems, LPT1: is the correct choice.

Next, select any additional options you'd like to install.
Note: Although the Zebra Font Downloader Setup Wizard is selected in the screen shot below, you do not need to install any additional options to use your Zebra printer with Heartland Retail. Doing so will not provide any extra functionality within Heartland Retail and may make the installation process take longer.

Click Finish, then wait while the process completes.

Once driver installation is complete, navigate to Control Panel >> Devices and Printers, then right click on your printer and select Printer Properties. Click Print Test Page ... if a test page prints, you have successfully installed your printer.

You are now ready to print labels from your USB Zebra printer! Continue to learn how.
