How are sold margin % and gross margin % calculated?
How are sold margin % and gross margin % calculated?

Gross Margin % is calculated in Heartland Retail as follows:

  • Net sales - item sold cost = gross margin

  • Gross margin divided by net sales = gross margin percentage

  • Gross margin % = percentage of net sales sold

Sold Margin % excludes returns, and is calculated in Heartland Retail as follows:

  • Gross Sales - Cost of Items Sold (not returned) = Sold Margin

  • Sold margin divided by gross sales = sold margin percentage

  • Sold margin % = percentage of gross sales sold.

Below are reports you can build in Heartland Retail to see how Gross and Sold Margin %'s are calculated.

Gross Margin %:

Filters:

  • Select the date you would like to view

Groups: You can choose from a variety of groups, depending on what you would like to see, including the following:

  • Sales Transaction >> Ticket #

  • Item #

  • Date

Metrics:

  • Source Sales >> Net Sales

  • Source Sales >> Net Item Sold Cost

  • Source Sales >> Gross Margin

  • Source Sales >> Gross Margin %

Sold Margin %:

Filters:

  • Select the date you would like to view

Groups: You can choose from a variety of groups, depending on what you would like to see, including the following:

  • Sales Transaction >> Ticket #

  • Item #

  • Date

Metrics:

  • Source Sales >> Gross Sales

  • Source Sales >> Net Sales

  • Source Sales >> Net Item Sold Cost
