Some web browsers use proprietary PDF rendering software that appears to be sending labels in an incorrect layout to your Zebra label printer. This article will explain how to print directly from Adobe Acrobat Reader, rather than from your web browser.

Install Adobe Acrobat Reader

Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free piece of software that comes preinstalled on many computers. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your system, navigate to https://get.adobe.com/reader/ and follow the instructions on their page to get the software installed. Once you have the program installed, open it up once just to agree to their software license and make sure it installed properly, then move on to the next step!

Configure Firefox to open PDF's in Adobe Acrobat Reader

1) Open Mozilla Firefox and click on the (menu) button in the top right corner of your web browser.

2) From this menu select "Preferences" if you are on a Mac, or "Options" if you are on a PC.

3) Select Applications from the left side bar.

4) Type PDF in the search box.

5) Click on Preview in Firefox to reveal the drop down allowing you to select other options.

6) Select Use Adobe Acrobat from the drop down list. (if you do not have that option in the list, select use other and select Adobe Acrobat Reader)

That's all for the settings in Firefox! Now when you go to print labels, rather than the PDF opening in your web browser, it will open up in Adobe Acrobat.

Printing labels from Adobe Acrobat Reader

When you go to print labels and select Generate PDF, now rather than opening up directly, you will see the file quickly gets downloaded, and then opens automatically in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Click on the Printer icon above your label preview, or click File -> Print from the file menu.

From here the steps slightly vary if you are using a Mac or a PC, please continue reading for the Operating System you are currently on.

I am using a Mac

1) Start by selecting your Zebra printer from the "Printer" dropdown at the top of the print dialog.

2) At the bottom, select the Page Setup button. (If a warning pops up select Yes to continue)

3) Select your printer from the "Format For" dropdown, so it shows the paper sizes for your printer.

4) Using the "Paper Size" dropdown, select the label size you are printing, in this case we are using a 2.0"x1.0" thermal label. One you have chosen your page size, click OK to save your preference.

5) Under the Paper Size & Handling section, select Actual Size.

Now, if your preview looks how you would like the label to print out, you are ready to click print!

I am using a PC

1) Start by selecting your Zebra printer from the "Printer" dropdown at the top of the print dialog.

2) Once your printer is selected, click the Properties button.

3) On this page, under the Size section, set the width and height of the label you are printing. In our case we happen to be printing a 2.0"x1.0" thermal label. Once you have entered your label size, click the OK button to save your preference.

4) Under the Paper Size & Handling section, select Actual Size.

Now, if your preview looks how you would like the label to print out, you are ready to click print!

The label is still printing incorrectly

If the label is still not printing properly, try re-calibrating your label printer by pressing and holding the green feed button on top until it blinks 7 times, then let go and it will print out a few calibration labels. Then, try printing again!

If that still did not solve your issue please send us an email at HRetailsupport@heartland.us, letting us know what size label you are trying to print, if you are using a Mac or a PC, and if possible attach an image of how the label printed.
